II.
ON THE EFFICIENT CAUSES
OF THE LORD'S
SUPPER.

STUDIOUS MIND: Who is the Institutor of the Lord's Supper?

TRUTH:

The Lord JESUS, who is our CHRIST, just as in the year of the World 3995, in the 33rd year of His age, on March 24th, which was the day of Saturn referring to the day of the week, Saturday, He instituted this most holy Supper for our sake; so the same Lord, continuing to be present to His Church, not indeed by a bodily or visible presence, but nevertheless by a spiritual one that is salutary to us, celebrates it through the employment of His Ministers, such that He truly offers to us the Bread and Drink of life—that is, Himself—to be enjoyed by faith; just as He clearly offers through the hands of His Servants their symbols, that is, the bread indeed to be eaten by mouth, and the wine to be drunk.

1. Concerning the institution of the Supper: And as they were eating, JESUS took bread, etc. Matt. 26:26, Mark 14:22, Luke 22:19, 1 Cor. 11:24.
2. Concerning the bodily absence of the Lord Jesus:
For you will always have the poor with you, and whenever
