1. Concerning the Earthly, and in this action, Symbolic Food and Drink. And as they were eating, Jesus took BREAD: and when He had blessed, He broke it, and gave it to the Disciples, and said: Take, eat, this is my Body. And having taken the cup, and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying: Drink from it, all of you. For this is my blood of the new Testament, etc. Matthew 26:26-28. Therefore these two are Earthly, the Bread and the Wine of the Lord.
2. Concerning the heavenly food and drink, it is said: My flesh is truly food, and My Blood is truly drink. John 6:55. Therefore these two are heavenly, the Body and Blood of the Lord JESUS, together with all His merits and benefits. Nor indeed should this seem absurd to a pious mind, since the same [mind] does not flee from the fact that there is solid food of doctrine, and also milk of the same. Heb. 5:12. And [it knows] that spiritual things are to be conjoined for us with those things which are spiritual. 1 Cor. 2:13.
3. Concerning the most beautiful Analogy of Earthly and Heavenly things, let a Syllogism drawn from proportion be noted here by the pious mind.
As Bread and Wine relate to nourishing the Body, when we eat the former and drink the latter in moderation: so do the Body of Christ delivered for us, and the Blood of Christ shed for us, relate to our faithful Souls.
But Bread supports the heart of man: Wine gladdens the heart of man, and makes his face shine more than oil. Psalm 104:15. Man shall not live by Bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of Jehovah, etc. Deut. 8:3. Wine nourishes and heals.
Therefore, the Body of Christ delivered for us, and the Blood of Christ shed for us, also feeds, waters, gladdens, and vivifies our faithful Souls.
4. Concerning the sacramental union of Earthly and Heavenly things, which makes it so that the signs and the things signified are one thing, let this Syllogism be observed,
