2. That the visible Symbols, namely the Bread and Wine of the Lord, are to be distributed by the Ministers of the word of God, according to the Lord’s prescription.
I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you. 1 Cor. 11:23.
For we are God’s συνεργοὶ co-workers, ministers. 1 Cor. 3:9.
Go therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them. Matthew 28:19.
3. That we use the Bread and Wine of the Lord.
Take, eat: This (that is, this Bread) is my Body: namely, sacramentally.
Drink from it, all of you. Matthew 26:26-27. Wherefore no one using the holy Supper should be barred from the use of the Cup: whether they be of the Ecclesiastical or the Political order: since all the faithful are a royal priesthood of God. 1 Pet. 2:9.
4. That we enjoy the body and blood of the Lord through faith, by which alone those heavenly gifts are perceived.
I am that bread of life: he who comes to me shall never hunger: and he who believes in me shall never thirst. Therefore to come by faith to the Lord JESUS, who was crucified, is to eat His flesh: and to believe that His blood was shed for us is, by Christ’s own testimony, to drink His blood.
He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has eternal life.
He who eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, remains in me, and I in him. As the living Father sent me, and I live by the Father: so also he who eats me shall live by me. John 6:35, 54, 56, 57.
But since in the unfaithful there is no life of eternal blessing: Christ does not remain in them: Christ does not live and reign by His grace: none of them eats His flesh, and drinks His blood.
