love Your Highness embraces and fosters the Chemical arts: and because it is customary not only in other sciences, but also entirely necessary in this Chemical art of ours, to seek patrons and supporters for published works: by whose protection and authority they can safely emerge and move about in public light. Therefore, with all the submission of spirit I can muster, I offer and dedicate this very Theatrum Chemicum Chemical Theater to Your Highness: and at the same time I humbly ask that Your Highness may deign to receive it with a serene and kindly countenance, and most clemently deign to defend and protect it with your illustrious protection. I pray with my whole heart to God, the best and greatest, that He may preserve and guard Your Highness, along with your most illustrious spouse and the entire renowned House of Württemberg, long flourishing, safe, and surviving. Strasbourg, the Ides of September, in the year 1602.
