And without doubt the stone, or medicine of the philosophers, among the best properties and operations which it performs in the human body, has the property of breaking the stone in the kidneys and bladder, and cleansing both, as Beriensis says.
Spirit is taken for sublimated subtle Alchemical bodies transmuting metals, from which the Elixir, that is, the stone of the philosophers, is constructed.
Our stone is water extracted and separated from our body, which is called primary matter.
And know, son, that the white stone, given the primary matter, can be finished within a philosophical year, which is called a common month.

And therefore it is useful to the true artist in dissolving metallic species.
But our fixed medicine is wonderfully useful both to men and to metals.
Which metal spirit lives by fire.
Therefore we know and it happens that all things, plants as well as animals, live and generate through a certain spirit similar to this. And among the elements (which is most spiritual) it generates most swiftly, and is perpetually moved as if living. But you will ask in the meantime: If elements and living creatures generate, why do stones and metals not generate, which are intermediate between elements and living creatures? Because evidently the spirit in them is restrained by thicker matter, which if ever it is rightly separated; and once separated, it
