8. Come then, grant that I may die to all things that are in the world, to live as a monk, and for Your sake to love being despised and unknown in this age! Provide, instead of all the musts of the world, the most sweet taste of Your spirit, and for carnal love, infuse the sweetness of Your name. Grant that I may take a holiday from all desired things in You, and pacify my heart from You, that I may learn to seek and find You before all things, to know and love You before all things; to be refreshed in You above every creature, to rejoice above every salvation and beauty, to find pleasure above every science and art, to grow merry above all treasures and riches, to become famous above all glory and honor, to take delight above all visible and invisible things, and finally to reside above everything that You, my God, are not.
9. Because You, Lord my God, are alone best above all things, You alone are most powerful, You alone are most sufficient, You alone are most sweet-honey-flowing and most comforting, You alone are most beautiful and most integral, You alone are most noble and most glorious, then most honorable above all things. You are the pure torch of the soul, You are the true peace of the heart, You are the only rest, life, salvation, and the only end. Outside of You, all things are hard and restless. With this torch, therefore, I say, in this peace, in this same thing, that is, in You, the one supreme and everlasting good, I shall sleep and rest. Through the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.
