Wirdig, Sebastian · 1673

By which they return words to their own meanings,
So many tinkling, alas, cymbals of opinions,
So many craftsmen of rules and dogmas,
So many sellers of nonsense, vapors of words,
Students of vapors and cooks of so many humors,
Ixions driven in a circle by so many wheels,
And Sisyphuses rolling stones among so many.
That Spirit, that one which once was nearly
Choked by chains cast about its neck,
Resumes its new life under your guidance, Spirit Referring to the author, Sebastian Wirdig, and the concept of his "Spirit Medicine.",
You who, emulating the transmarine Hercules,
Awaken the avengers of the parent of all things,
Make known the closer causes of bodies,
And teach them in your learned book, learned WIRDIG:
By what path the Spirit rotates in great numbers,
The great host of the brain, the great host of the blood,
And how it moves the sluggish limbs and the tiny nerves.
