Note in this second declension that those which have a pure -a, or one following the letter rho, retain that -a, or if it is of the Ionic dialect: for example, maia, maias, maiai, hēmera day, hēmeras. Whatever has a consonant before the -a, either -lambda or -sigma, makes the genitive in -as: Lēda, Lēdas; kisaitha, kisaithas. Those which have a consonant and end in -ēs also change that -a: for example, mousa, mousēs; dipsa thirst, dipsēs; glōtta tongue, glōttēs; thalassa sea, thalassēs.
The third declension of the noun is in the masculine, or feminine, or neuter, and it is itself isosyllabic: clearly some of those in -ōs ending with the great omega omega (ω) in masculine or feminine nouns, or those in -ōn.
