of Mainz, as well as the Bishoprics of Worms and Constance, we have a man to revere not only as a scholar, but also as a promoter of scholarship. From him, the Church, the State, and the learned world may one day promise themselves much and expect much. Hail to our enlightened and most praiseworthy Friedrich Karl Joseph referring to Friedrich Karl Joseph von Erthal, Elector of Mainz, that he successfully directed the choice to this worthy friend of the Muses to his own eternal and immortal glory. For this, the world and all righteous patriots will certainly bless him; they will bless his remains when they one day rest, and bless him when the beneficial work of the Enlightenment original: "Aufklärung" begun by him, through which he formed people into noble-thinking and peace-loving humans and promoted scholarship, is completed by our Karl Theodor von Dalberg.
Just as these Archbishops and Bishops, who stood in great prestige and dignity, have earned merit for the Church, and will continue to do so in the future; so have others of this lineage acquired no small merits for the State.
