no more than it in the eyes of wise mother Nature, who nourishes them both; nevertheless, each has its way of being, particular to themselves; and Divination, supporting itself with all common principles, has its own, which are particular to it.
One may miss an infinity of reasons; but to find them again, one need only consult the order of all things, and one will see relationships that are impossible to contradict.
The physical principles of Divination are without number; the Philosopher-Diviners have almost all had their own, just as the Hermetic Philosophers had their paths; but both see the intellectual principles within their physical principles, and the celestial principles within those.
If in the physical principles, no matter which branch of the Cabale Kabbalah or secret tradition one follows, one does not have numbers as the root and the Stars as the influence, one cannot establish an alphabet that leads to Science.
To ascend to Divination, we have tested several alphabets; we have sometimes used those of one or another Philosopher: we have succeeded; but whether through self-love or a desire to owe something to our own intelligence, we have formed our alphabet from the theme of numbers, letters, and colors.
The fruit has been late in coming, and it is far from the case that everything this scientific tree can give is at maturity; but is one not over-rewarded when one has arrived at the thousandth certain prognostic, whether because the movement is given, or whether because the formed or unformed character of our Questioner witnesses to us that he will be led one day to touch such or such strings, which will necessarily produce such or such sounds?
Let us not confuse the finite with the infinite. Human Divination is infinitely limited; but free will has its bounds; and they are so often cir-
