Whatever care I have taken to recommend the one and only route of true Magic since I recognized it, as I discover Ignorance outfitting itself with what is its own in its declarations of war and in its battles, it is right that I prevent it by offering to Society in general, and in particular to the truly Studious, the intimate secrets of my Art, which has acquired for me the little reputation I have, not only among my Compatriots, but, as is known, throughout Europe, and even in the principal Cities of Asia and America, and finally, it is a truth, in Morocco, in Africa, where I am known by my specific and, I repeat, never general prognostics, unless Science and Wisdom constrain me to it, but not Men.
The four questions I ask are called the pillars of Wisdom, Science, and the Art of the Magician-Diviner; and it is upon these three human Virtues, or virtues given to Men, that the intellectual and celestial pyramid is placed, which, conceived by the understanding, causes Oracles to be pronounced. Studious ones, be attentive.
1st. By the year and the day of the month, drawing up the natal theme the birth chart, the Magician-Astrologer consults the influences of the Stars at the time of birth or at the moment of specific questions, and this is called natural and judicial astrology, or the Science of the Heavens.
2nd. By the letters, the Magician-Cartonomancier one who divines by the law of cards develops or recognizes the spirit of those who surrounded the Questioner at the time of their birth, and this is called Human Art.
3rd. By the number, knowing the forces, virtues, and properties of numbers, as well as their weaknesses with regard to such or such subjects, the Cartonomancier judges the internal, moral, and physical solidity or lightness of the Questioner, and this is called Science.
