...works at twenty years of age and finishing them at fifty, not including in this count of men those who are devoted to the Sciences and Arts without any end to their studies!
I do not have the pride to claim that I followed this plan; but without having had any idea of it, my life and my studies fell into it naturally. That is to say, (almost always while traveling) I gave fifteen consecutive years of days to Society: in a trade as noble as it is precious, Natural History, small bronzes, medals, paintings, ancient prints, and in general, the antique and foreign objects of true curiosity. From divine unity, the celestial numbers emerged: that is to say, everything that has soul, life, and existing bodies, as celestial creatures, placed in the purest regions of all the Worlds.
From the celestial numbers emerged the intellectual numbers, and from these, the physical numbers: the center, circle, and rays of all bodies. Now, as one sees, there is really only one single and unique Divinity; and everything attributed to "one," such as a Sun, an Earth, a Man, is only a matter of expression. Any object whatsoever—celestial, intellectual, or physical—is composed of parts and has its likenesses, because it must be that only the 1, divine unity, is truly unique.
