Nieuwentyt, Bernard · 1715

An engraved illustration of a classical stone pavilion or monument situated within a garden. Under the vaulted arch, a tall, lit candle stands upon a pedestal. The Latin inscription "I am consumed in serving others" original: "ALIIS INSERVIENDO CONSUMOR" is engraved on the architrave. This is a common emblem for the scholar or the selfless physician.
