POST FRANCIS FEUARDENT AND JOHN ERNEST GRABE
The text has been corrected once more according to Roman, Gallic, and English manuscript codices, as well as older editions,
and purged of the many errors with which it still abounded; augmented with new Greek fragments; illustrated and enriched with observations, notes,
and very extensive glossaries and indexes; to all of which are added three dissertations, in which
the heresies mentioned by Irenaeus and difficult passages are explained, and the history of his life and deeds is discussed.
By the study and labor of DOM RENÉ MASSUET, Priest and Benedictine Monk
of the Congregation of Saint Maur.
TO WHICH IN THIS LATEST EDITION
Are added the fragments of the same Saint Irenaeus found by Pfaff. Also two letters from the most illustrious Scipio Maffei
concerning the author of those same fragments with Pfaff's responses. Finally, three letters by Father Francesco M. Leone, Public Professor
of Metaphysics in the Gymnasium of Padua, regarding the controversy between Maffei and Pfaff.
PART ONE.
An ornate engraved title-vignette by Francesco Zucchi depicts two putti supporting a large decorative shield. Inside the shield is a religious figure, likely Saint Irenaeus as a bishop, holding a book and a crozier. The word "CARITAS" Charity is partially visible. The entire structure rests upon a decorative pedestal base.
