A highly detailed armorial engraving serves as the first bookplate for Beverly Chew. It features a central shield decorated with a chevron and three lions' heads. A helmet and a crest of a lion's head sit atop the shield. The motto at the top translates to "Virtue conquers envy" original: "INVIDIAM VINCIT VIRTUS". At the bottom, the label contains the name "BEVERLY CHEW" and the phrase "From the library of" original: "EX LIBRIS".
The second bookplate belongs to William Cowan. This engraving depicts a circular emblem where a hand emerges from a cloud holding a balance scale. A bird, likely a dove, flies above the scales. It includes a Latin motto that may be read as "Thus one goes to the stars" original: "Sic Itur Ad Astra" or a variant meaning "Thus one goes into the deep." The name William Cowan is printed clearly below the image.
The third bookplate is a modern circular seal with a blue border. The gold text translates to "Hermetic Philosophy" original: "PHILOSOPHIA • HERMETICA". The center of the seal shows a white pelican in her piety, an image of a bird feeding her young from her own breast. This is a traditional symbol of self-sacrifice. A small red and white shield is located at the bottom of the circle.
