“Now come to Luke xii. 40. ‘Be you therefore ready also: for the Son of Man comes at an hour when you do not think. Then Peter said to him, Lord, do you speak this parable only to us, or to everyone? And the Lord said, who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of food in due season? Blessed is that servant whom his lord, when he comes, shall find so doing. Truly I say to you, that he will make him ruler over all that he has.’
Luke xxiii. 28. ‘But Jesus turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming in which they shall say, blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nursed. Then they shall begin to say to the mountains, fall on us; and to the hills, cover us. For if these things are done in the green tree, what shall be done in the dry?’
“This I shall leave for the learned to explain in their own way. And now bring forward what I have already told you is the language and judgment of men.
