In the same way, the Book of Thoth becomes remarkable in regard to its number 7, at which I now marvel even more; namely, 7 times 11 leaves, with the leaf with the zero added to it, makes the whole of the book.
Indeed, from all sides this 7, which we find in the Book of Thoth, must fill us with wonder, for even in the 78 from which it is composed, the 7 forces itself upon our eyes.
Because therefore in all figures, in the whole itself, the 7 always lies hidden and contained; I establish the following table: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.
From the Book of Thoth, insofar as it is a unity in its entirety, I derive the number 1.
From the four divisions of the book into 26, 17, 11, — — 11 + 11 + 2, the number 4.
From the remarkable number seven finally, which perhaps contains even more wonders and greatness in itself than the unity of the book and the 4 divisions, I derive the number 7.
This therefore gives me occasion for these two tables: 1, 4, 7, ...... 2, 3, 5, 6. Here, however, I must surely ask, when I take into consideration the spirit of the book, which is 3; why there are not three tables, or why the table does not consist of three parts? And here I see myself forced to a completely natural operation, which corresponds exactly with the constant cutting of the Book of Thoth into two parts. Namely, set down the table 1, 4, 7. Here you find that 1 + 7 equals 8, and half of that is 4. Therefore, since 2 + 6 also equals 8, and the half is 4, set this 4 under that 4; furthermore, since 3 + 5 also equals 8, and the half is 4, set this 4 again under that 4; and so you get a single table, the spirit of which is 3.
If you now make an expanded table of the 1, 4, 7 = 12; by adding the first twelve numbers, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 = 78, together; then
