Just as the diviner Orakeltheiler cannot reveal the future from the immediate unity (1) of the Book of Thoth, he is just as unable to do so from the number of man (2). This is the number which the inquirer presents to the magical person the diviner by opening the unity of the book into two parts by cutting the deck.
The book therefore had to be divided into three parts. Repeating this three times constitutes the true, mysterious, and sublime work, modeled after how the entire creation occurred, and regarding the number 26, which should fill us with awe. Everything within and concerning the Book of Thoth has its purpose and its significance.
The entire book (1) represents the unique number of the Deity. 78 is the number of Melac salt, the indestructible spirit; 26 is the number of the greatest, most exalted name of the Deity, Jeova Jehovah. In Hebrew numerology, the name Yahweh totals 26.
During the first laying of the 78 leaves cards, none were left over. This signifies that nothing remained. This "nothing" is designated by a zero, and 0 is the figure of the circle 0.
During the second laying of the 54 leaves While the text says 54, the subsequent math of 17 per row with 1 remaining suggests 52 cards were used., there were 17 in each row, but 1 remained. This 1 is the point for the center of the circle,
and it represents the Deity in the center of the circumference Circumferenz.
During the third laying, there were 11 in each row, and 2 remained. This is "man," who is designated by this number. These layouts present the Deity to us in the midst of humanity, of the man and the woman. Alternatively, they represent the fire, the spirit, and the soul of the universe in the center of the white woman and the black man, as you can see on the 14th leaf of the Book of Thoth, which you must have before your eyes. Card 14 in Etteilla's system is traditionally titled "The Force" or "The Two Directions," often depicting symbolic opposites.
The magical giver of oracles is not able to break down the number of unity (1), nor the number of the name 26, which signifies Jeova Jehovah. However, he must analyze the number 17 into its components to find 10 as the circle of the Deity, secondly 4 as the representation of the knowledge of nature, and thirdly 3 as the representation of human wisdom menschliche Weisheit.
The number 11 also cannot be further broken down or analyzed. It only indicates that the number 10 precedes 11, and that the number 12 follows 11. This is the same relationship as when, in smaller numbers, 1 multiplied gives 2, and this divided again...
