॥Salutations!॥ The Eighteen Processes ॥

1. Svedana Steaming, 2. Mardana Grinding, 3. Mūrchā Swooning, 4. Sthāpana Solidifying, 5. Pātana Distillation, 6. Nirodha Restraint, 7. Niyama Regulation, 8. Dīpana Stimulation, 9. Gaganagrāsa Swallowing the sky (ether), 10. Pramāṇa Standardization, 11. Manthacāraṇavidhāna Churning method, 12-13. [Process omitted in text], 14. Garbhadruti Internal liquefaction, 15. Bāhyadruti External liquefaction, 16. Jāraṇa Digestion/Calcination, 17. Rasarājasāraṇa The liquefaction of the King of Metals, 18. Vedha Transmutation. These are the eighteen processes of Rasa Mercury/Metallic Essence. [2] With āsurī mustard, pippalī, marica, śuṇṭhī the three pungents, and vijayā-ardrakamūlakaiḥ ginger and radish roots. Steaming should be done for three days with a gentle fire. [3]

॥ On Steaming ॥ He who acts with these supports, for him the Lord of the Mercury original: "Rasarāja" is made manifest. [1] Thus, the enumeration of the eighteen processes is established. Now, the definition of the methods of these processes is stated. Now, Svedana Steaming. Regarding the first process: steaming should be done for three days with a gentle fire. With what? With asurī mustard, the three pungents, and ginger and radish roots. It is clarified that kañjika sour gruel is essential.

Using the dolāyantra swing apparatus, grinding again and again... [This] is the definition of Svedana, which causes the loosening of impurities.

॥ Now, Mardana Grinding ॥ The method for the second process is explained: Grinding the mercury for three days with guḍa jaggery, dagdha-ūrṇā burnt wool, and lavaṇa salt, along with medicinal herbs. The khala mortar must be blue, smooth, heavy, and nine fingers wide.
