...are purified by nāga lead and vaṅga tin... and by the juice of nirguṇḍī Vitex negundo. [15] Regarding that: when processed in water with red sneha, it is purified. It is purified by three times being processed with the juice of kadali plantain and śikhari Achyranthes aspera. [17] The killing (māraṇa) is described: iron is purified by all, and colors like the cochineal insect. [16]
Thus ends the ninth chapter of the Rasarudra, "The Teaching on the Seed."
The extraction of essence (sattva) will be described. The form of vaikānta a type of iron and kānta lodestone, with mākṣika and other components, is discussed. One should observe the method of heating, without doubt. [19] Thus it is written and should be seen. Thus ends the tenth chapter of the Rasa-tattva, "The Teaching on Essence Extraction."
Now, the seed quenching (nirvāraṇa) begins. The rasa mercury, radiant and powerful, brings forth happiness. [1] In the beginning, the praise of gold is described: as the Ganga water enters the ocean, so do all metal qualities meet in the mercury bridge. [1] The authority on sattva essence is described: they are conquered and united with the essence, reaching the state of gold. [2] The use of sattva is described: thick essence is used in the elixir by the power of minerals, giri-janu bitumen/shilajit, mākṣika, gairika, and darada. [3] Another method is described: in soft kānta and thick sattva, one should mix nāga, tīkṣṇa, and kanaka, and perform the seed-firing with darada, śilā, and mākṣika. [4] Another method: soft nāga, vaṅga, or thick sattva, or silver and gold, when smelted with minerals, becomes the essence. [5] Another method: nāga with threefold gold, then rasaka zinc ore, or gairika—these are the essence-producers. [6] ...The mākṣika and other components... like a beggar, turmeric-colored. Yellow vaṅga is designated for the work of the "King of Metals" mercury. [7] Regarding that: by the decoction of rasa mercury, it achieves double the penetration. [7]
The dead metal and secondary minerals become a chain of seeds. [8] The iron maśāla crucible should be smelted and purified. The mercury and iron, when digested, become the essence of humanity. [9] Another special method is described: with the seed resembling the cochineal insect, the mercury, being digested, colors and produces gems. [10] Regarding that: with dead iron purified by red sneha, one should perform the seed-infusion. [11] The seeds for the extraction process are mentioned; now, the seeds for the "dyeing" (vetana) process are mentioned. [12] The essence is mentioned: for the quenching method, the thick essence is used first. [13] The quenching method is described: in a crucible made of goat-bone ash, shaped like a mallet, with the addition of flux, one should apply the paste. [14] Having made a "blind" crucible or a mallet-shaped one, one should perform the essence-extraction.
