The Jewel Mine of Mercury

The following are the first regulators and killers of the divine mercury: sarpākṣī Ophiorrhiza mungos, kṣīriṇī, bandhyā, masyākṣī, śaṅkhapuṣpikā Convolvulus pluricaulis, kākajaṅghā, mikhishikhā, brahmadandī, ākhukarṇikā, varṣābhū, vañcukī, mūrvā, markoṭī, alibiṃbikā, śatāvarī Asparagus racemosus, vajravallī, vajrakanda, ādikīrṇikā, maṇḍūkaparṇikā Centella asiatica, pāṭhā, citraka, orīkṣasundarī, kākamācī Solanum nigrum, mahāraudrī, haridrā turmeric, tilaparṇikā, śvetākṣī, śigru, nūramaga, dūrvā, harītakī, guḍūcī, musalī, punarnavā, bhaṅgarāja, dattacitraka, nāraṅga, sūraṇa, muṇḍī, amala, pōtakī, saindhava rock salt, śvetavarṣābhū, srāmbara, hiṅgu asafoetida, mausika, viṣṇukāntā, somavallī, vṛṣadhī, yakṣalocana, vyāghrapādī, haṃsapādī, vṛścikālī, kuṭumbaka, svayambhū, kusumakaṃbhī, hastiśuṇḍī, and dvirūpaṇī. These are the herbs, as told by me, O Parvati. These, whether combined or separate, or eighteen in number, should be used for the killing, stabilizing, and binding of the mercury. Grind them first with the urine of a virgin cow, then kill the mercury with their juices, following the prescribed order. The combination of white [mercury] with the digestive agent is known as "killing." The test of the killed mercury should be performed as mentioned: when placed on fire, if it stays like a fly meaning it does not evaporate or smoke excessively, then know it is ash. Observe it for the same duration.

Shri. Thus, in the Rasaratnākara composed by Nityanatha Siddha, son of Parvati, in the Rasa-khaṇḍa, the digested and killed mercury, which destroys old age, poverty, and disease, is finished. Consumed, it destroys disease; when bound, it can be used everywhere. 1.
