...in the final heating, it becomes ash. Wrapped in the roots of red bolla and meghanāda and kuṭyala, the diamond calcined becomes one pala a weight unit of diamond ash. The diamond gives longevity, strength, beauty, and physical well-being. Consumed, it destroys diseases; there is no doubt that the killed diamond [is effective]. 6. Now, the calcination of vaikrānta an adamant-like mineral is described. 6. Vaikrānta should be purified like a diamond, whether it is blue, black, or red. Sprinkle it with horse urine one hundred times, or seven times. Then, in the milk of uttarā-vāruṇī and five [types of] mango [juices], place it in a ball. Seal the crucible and cook it in a puṭa; after taking it out and putting it into a ball again, seal and cook it in this way seven times to bring it to the state of ash. Use the calcined vaikrānta in place of diamond. 6. Shri. 6. Thus, in the Rasaratnākara composed by Shri Nityanatha Siddha, son of Parvati, in the Rasa-khaṇḍa, the fifth instruction titled "The Chapter on the Calcination of Diamond and Vaikrānta" is finished. 5. 6. Shri. 6. Shri Rama is my refuge. 6. Now, the purification and calcination of mica (abhraka) is described. 6. The classification of mica is described. Unpurified [mica] destroys sound and longevity, increases wind and phlegm, destroys food and teeth, and is a creator of internal fire and worms. The black, white, yellow, and red [varieties] are to be used in alchemy and formulations. It is four-fold: pināka, dardura, nāga, and vajra. The pināka gives... the vajra... one should collect the diamond-variety. When thrown into the fire, the pināka releases layers. The dardura when struck makes a sound like a drum.
