The Essence of Mercury

Various measuring tools, both small and large, for weighing,
From mustard seeds to gems, are described in order by the wise. (10)
One should acquire divine herbs and various oils,
Alkalis from plant bulbs, and the excellent Manjistha group of herbs. (11)
Crucibles of various types must be made, along with two types of curved pipes,
Having constructed the furnace in many ways, one should collect the wood of the Kokila tree. (12)
One should collect the fat of all living creatures and various forms of bile,
And when a creature dies at the right time, one should perform the act of collection. (13)
The group of acidic substances, and all those derived from decoctions and urine,
Must be fermented along with alkalis, acids, and great medicinal substances. (14)
Many kinds of apparatus must be made, as well as many glass bottles,
Earthworm soil, clay, iron slag, and limestone. (15)
The husks of rice grains should be burned with effort;
Equipped with these substances, one should commence the mercury process. (16)
The place, the materials, skill, the essence of the scriptures, and the sequence of the teacher,
He who knows these, is truthful, diligent, and free from deceit, (17)
Who appreciates virtues, worships gods and guests,
Is a yogi, devoted to the worship of maidens, and constantly engaged in chanting. (18)
