The Essence of Mercury

Ground with both types of milk cow and buffalo, it becomes pervasive, definitely.
By the juice of the nightshade kakamachi, it attains purity. (11)
At the end of each medicinal process, one should wash it with fermented rice gruel;
Such grinding and other work should always be performed by the wise. (12)

Now, therefore, I will tell of sweating, so that the mercury may become intense.
The sweating is performed in a vessel made of iron or clay. (13)
With decoctions of divine herbs, acids, roots of drumstick, with mustard seeds,
With the three salts, the three pungents, alkalis, poisons, sub-poisons, and urine. (14)
One should perform the sweating method in a mild fire with quantities of one-sixteenth;
In twenty-one days, one should know it as very intense. (15)

With this same combination, one should grind the mercury in a mortar;
In twenty-one days, the mercury becomes pure. (16)

The stupefaction of the King of Mercury should always be performed by the experts,
First with poisons, the three myrobalans, and the three sub-poisons. (17)
With the bulbs of the Karkoti plant a type of cucumber and the milk, with leadwort, and with Aloe vera,
Grinding each for one yama three-hour period, [one should process] the mercury. (18)
Taking the Kinnara apparatus, one should coat the base with medicine;
One should place the mercury, combined with ammonium chloride, inside the apparatus. (19)
One should place a saucer over the mercury and seal the joint firmly with clay,
Filling it with salt and closing the opening with effort. (20)
Placing it over a furnace, the wise one should light a lamp-fire;
After one yama, one should take it down and the mercury should be cooled. (21)
