The mortar khalva and the pestle pindika should be known [as the union]. The King of Mercury rasendra is called the phallus linga.
Grinding is called sandalwood paste chandana, and the portion to be consumed grasa is the ritual worship. (67)
He who provides fire for the King of Mercury for one day: his sins vanish, and he is not defiled even while performing the work. (68)
Having collected one hundred pala a weight measure of mercury for the mercury work, the best practitioner should accomplish it even with one sixteenth part [of additive]. (69)
Now, therefore, I will explain the purification of mercury and secondary minerals uparasa. With acids, alkalis, urines, and a decoction of horse gram kulittha, (1)
one should first sweat the minerals for up to seven days. Vaikranta a type of tourmaline or diamond substitute, sasyaka copper sulfate, tapya iron pyrite, darada cinnabar, rasaka calamine, and giri mountain minerals, (2)
vimala iron pyrite and kantaka magnetic iron: these are purified by sweating, and not otherwise. All secondary minerals are purified; one should then perform the extraction of their essence sattva-nipata. (3)
With acids, alkalis, red substances, and the juice of the five-leaved chaste tree nirgundi, (4)
one should perform the pouring nisheka and casting dhala upon them again and again. All metals are purified and become free of defects. (5)
Thus, purification and sweating are done for minerals and secondary minerals.
With urine, fat, marrow, and milk for twenty-one days, thus the minerals release their essence, which is very pure. (6)
