I bow to that Lord Shiva, the destroyer of all sorrows,
Whose stainless lotus feet are worshipped by the wise and the perfected like bees,
Who is complete in the group of eight qualities that indicate liberation.

Couplet—Holding the lotus feet of Gaurīśaṅkara Shiva in my heart with love,
I write this Kāmaratna Jewel of Desire in the vernacular language in many ways.
May Lord Ganesha, the bringer of auspiciousness, destroyer of all fear and pain,
Always be favorable to this Brahmin, Jwālāprasād.

I bow to Shiva, the complete destroyer of all sorrows and full of the Vedas, whose lotus feet are constantly worshipped by the gods and the perfected ones like bees, and by remembering whose virtuous deeds one attains liberation. Somewhere the reading is "nirvāṇa-śātaka-guṇāṣṭaka-varga-pūrṇa." Meaning—I bow to that Shiva, the destroyer of all sorrow, who resides in the four groups including Dharma and the eight-limbed yoga of meditation and contemplation, which are the means for the destruction of the entire creation. 1.
