Lord Shiva began to speak: "O Goddess! Physicians should perform the gathering, digging, and uprooting of medicinal herbs according to the distinctions of the lunar day, constellation, day of the week, and the seasons, through the use of mantras sacred incantations. A medicinal herb gathered in accordance with the proper time exerts supreme power. In autumn and early winter, one should gather the bark and the root. In the late winter shishira the season between winter and spring, one should gather fruits, roots, and the pith. In spring, one should gather flowers and leaves, and in summer, fruits and seeds. Trees are always powerful in their own season and during the rainy season. When the root is dry, it possesses half its strength, and the area where the excrement referring to soil impurities or location is, is weak. Completeness occurs in the summer, rainy season, and autumn. The fruits and seeds of trees should be gathered in their own proper season. These fruits, flowers, and creepers are powerful in their own time. Those born in the forest are potent at night, and those born in water are powerful during the day."
