Armenian Manuscript (Armenien 128)

A full-page, hand-painted religious illustration in the style of Ethiopian manuscript art. The composition features two haloed figures within a rectangular black frame that has small red cross-shaped flourishes at each corner.

On the left is a larger figure of an elderly, bearded cleric or saint. He wears an ornate mitre decorated with red and green jewels, a white pallium with black crosses, and a pink and red striped cope over a long blue alb. He holds a book with a cross on its cover against his chest.

To the right stands a smaller winged angel, also with a halo, wearing a red outer garment over a dark green tunic and brown boots.

Both figures stand on a patterned ground composed of grey and white arches, suggesting a cobblestone surface. Behind them is a low white balustrade or wall, set against a solid, bright yellow background.
