Saint Gregory says to the angel: "When the soul departs from the body, does it possess understanding or not?" The angel says: "It possesses true understanding and wisdom, rational thought, and perception, not in the body."
Saint Gregory says: "What is the soul like?" The angel says: "It is fire, light, and human-shaped, as Paul says: If our outer man perishes, the inner man is renewed. Indeed, the souls of the righteous are like the sun, luminous and bright, and the soul of the sinner is filled with mist, darkness, and foul deeds."
