and it binds Satan. Saint Gregory says: What is prayer? The angel says: One who prays with a holy heart tears the heavens like an arrow and rises to God, and God makes the man His own. Saint Gregory says: Why is the death of the sinner so evil? The angel says: Because he dies without hope, and he does not repent and confess; the Lord commands: "Depart from Me, you cursed, into the eternal fire, for you are the collaborators of Satan." There is no room for repentance, and God looks upon such a one with wrath, even though He is merciful, and the angel of the Lord appears as an enemy to him. Saint Gregory says: How precious is the death of the righteous! The angel says: Because they have let go of their sins, and they have mortified their own selves against sins, and they have placed their hope in God. And they have endured this life and its trials, and they have become worthy of the unfading crowns, and they reach the heavenly kingdom always. Saint Gregory says: When you take the soul of the sinner, how do you lead it? The angel says: With difficulty and with suffering I lead the soul upward. In the first stage are the legions of demons, because of the conscience and the battle; like locusts, they turn me to one side, and they stand in terror? and
