10.5 Takrur
the city of Takrur. It is to the south of the Nile, and between it and Silla is a distance of two days by the Nile and by land. The city of Takrur is larger than the city of Silla and has more trade. The people of the Far Maghrib original: "al-Maghrib al-Aqsa" travel to it with cowrie shells and copper, and they bring out from it gold dust and servants. The food of the people of Silla and the people of Takrur is millet, fish, and milk, and most of their livestock are camels and goats. The clothing of the common people is wool garments, and on their heads are wool caps. The clothing of their elites is cotton cloth and loincloths. From the city of Silla and Takrur to the city of Sijilmasa is forty days by caravan travel. The closest land to it from the lands of the Lamtuna original: "Lamta" is the Azki desert, and between them are twenty-five stages. One provides oneself with water in it for a journey of two, four, five, or six days. Likewise, from the island of Aulil to the city of Sijilmasa is about forty stages by caravan travel.
Barisi
From the city of Takrur to the city of Barisi on the Nile, going east, is twelve stages. The city of Barisi is a small city of the Sudanese.
