... onto the earth. Then the sea split, and a black pillar came out of it, and it was swirling until it reached the clouds of the sky. Shahryar and Shah Zaman were afraid, and from the greatness of their fear, they fled and climbed a great tree, ascended it, hid in it, and covered themselves with its leaves. While they were looking at the black pillar, behold, it was flying in the water, and it was splitting the sea, heading toward the green meadow. When it came out to the land and ascended to the meadow, they looked, and behold, it was a black ‘Ifrit a powerful, monstrous spirit, and on his head was a large glass box with four locked padlocks. The ‘Ifrit came up, walked in the meadow, and sat under the tree in which the two kings were. The ‘Ifrit sat under the tree, put the glass box on the ground, and took out four keys. They signaled to her, 'This sleeper is the enemy of mankind, so by God, let us be.' She said, 'You must come down, and if you do not come down to me, I will wake the ‘Ifrit and let him kill you.' Then she signaled to them and insisted upon them, so they came down from the tree, little by little, until they were in front of her. She fell onto her back, spread her legs, and said, 'Have intercourse with me and accomplish my purpose, otherwise I will wake the ‘Ifrit to kill you.' They said to her, 'O our mistress, by God, do not do this. We are at this hour in the utmost fear and terror of this ‘Ifrit, so excuse us from this matter.'
