... to David on that
day and he said to him: "Go and
erect an altar to the Lord in the
threshing floor of Araunah the Jebu
site." And David went up accord
ing to the word of Gad, just as the Lord
commanded him. And Araunah bowed down
when he saw the king and his ser
vants coming to him
and he worshipped upon his face
to the ground. And says
Araunah: "Why is it that my Lord
the King has come to his servant?"
And the king says: "To buy from you
the threshing floor and to build an altar to the Lord,
so that the wrath may cease
from the people." And
Araunah says to the king: "Do
as it seems pleasing before
your eyes; and behold
my oxen for burnt offerings,
and the wheels and the yokes of the oxen
for wood." All he gave to the
king. And says Araunah to the
king: "The Lord God shall bless
you." And the king says: "Not so,
but by buying I shall buy
from you and I shall offer burnt
offerings to the Lord my God for free."
And David bought the threshing floor
and the oxen for silver
fifty shekels. And David built
the altar to the Lord,
and offered burnt offerings and peace
offerings to the Lord. And added
Solomon to the altar
afterwards, for the first was small;
and the Lord heard the land
and the destruction ceased
in Israel.
From the Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews, Ch. 13
We have an altar
from which they have no
authority to eat, who
serve the taber
nacle; for the animals whose
blood was brought
into the sanctuary for the sake of sins by the high priest,
the bodies of these were burned
outside the camp. For
this reason Jesus also, so that He might sanctify with
His own blood
the people, suffered outside the
gate. Now, there
fore, come, let us go out to Him
outside the camp,
bearing His reproach,
for we do not have a city
that is here to remain, but
the one to come we seek.
Therefore through Him let us
offer a sacrifice
at all times to God, that is, the
fruit of the lips confessing
in His name. Kindness and
fellowship do not forget, for
with such sacrifices
God is pleased.

Gospel according to Matthew
At that time spoke
Jesus to the people

do not do, for they say and do

men; and with their finger
they do not wish to move
