منية المريد (The Desire of the Aspirant — Timbuktu Sufi MS, 1780)

His appearance would shine by its beauty, not by a glance at his report.
Due to his resemblance to the master of servants, better than any who is present or absent.

And our master Ahmad al-Tijani memorized the Quran in seven years,
From his teacher, the possessor of the Tibyān Clarity/Exposition, the one of dignified knowledge and piety.
And he memorized the Quran in seven years from his teacher, the scholar, the director, the firm one.
After that, he engaged with the sciences, and made the obscure like the understood.
He attained in his youth the lead in them, and by other than him that was agreed upon.
He completed, and studied, and indicated his youth by his age, yes, and descended.
Then his high ambition ascended to following the masters of the Sufis.
He toured in the love of the people of God, the habit of every worshiper or saint.
