A horizontal section of a traditional Chinese hand-written scroll on yellowed paper. The text is written in vertical columns from right to left in a disciplined, elegant regular script (Kaishu). The content consists of Buddhist scripture from the Mahaprajnaparamita Sutra.
In the Suchness there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva; in the Suchness of the constant-tranquil nature there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. In the Bodhisattva Mahasattva there is the Suchness of the non-dual and undifferentiated dharma. In the Bodhisattva Mahasattva there is the Suchness of the constant-tranquil nature. Apart from the Suchness of the non-dual common dharma, there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva; apart from the Suchness of the constant-tranquil nature, there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva.
Furthermore, Subhuti, by what meaning do you speak of the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes the Buddha's perfect, exhaustive knowledge? It is not that the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes. The Suchness of the omniscience of all modes is not the Bodhisattva Mahasattva with the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes. The Suchness of the omniscience of all modes is not the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, nor the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes. The Suchness of the omniscience of all modes is not the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, nor the Suchness of the omniscience of the path. In the Suchness there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva; it is not that in the Suchness of the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. It is not that in the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva; the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes is not in the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. In the Suchness there is the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes; it is not that in the Bodhisattva Mahasattva there is the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes. The Suchness is not apart from the omniscience of all modes; there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, not apart from the Suchness of the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes; there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva.
The venerable Subhuti said to the World-Honored One, "If the omniscience of all modes, the omniscience of the path, and the omniscience of all modes are ultimately ungraspable and their nature does not exist, and since the Suchness that is the omniscience of all modes and the Suchness that is the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes does not exist, how can it be spoken of? The Suchness of the omniscience of all modes is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the Suchness of the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. The Suchness of the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva. In the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. In the Bodhisattva Mahasattva there is the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes. In the Suchness of the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Apart from the Suchness of the omniscience of all modes there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva. Apart from the Suchness of the omniscience of the path and the omniscience of all modes there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva."
"World-Honored One, since phenomena such as form and their Suchness are ungraspable, to say that the Suchness of phenomena such as form is the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, or that the Suchness of phenomena such as form is with the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, or that in the Suchness of phenomena such as form there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva, or that in the Bodhisattva Mahasattva there is the Suchness of phenomena such as form, or that apart from the Suchness of phenomena such as form there is a Bodhisattva Mahasattva—this does not exist."
