In the twenty-fourth year, summer, the sixth month, on the last day of the month, there was an eclipse of the sun.
In the twenty-sixth year, spring, the first month, they built a palace at Geumseong.
In the thirtieth year, summer, the fourth month, on the last day of the month, there was an eclipse of the sun. People from Lelang were leading troops to invade. Seeing that the people of the border did not lock their doors at night and that goods were left in the open fields, they said to one another, "This region's people do not steal from each other; it can be called a land of the Way. If we were to lead a secret force and raid them, would it be any different from stealing? Should we not feel ashamed?" They then retreated.
In the thirty-second year, autumn, the eighth month, on the last day of the month, there was an eclipse of the sun.
In the thirty-eighth year, spring, the second month, the king sent Hogong Gourd-man to pay a visit to the Mahan king. The Mahan king reprimanded Hogong, saying, "The two Han states, Jin and Byeon, are my dependent states. In recent years, they have not paid tribute or performed the rites of serving the great. How can it be like this?" Hogong replied, "Our nation has flourished since the two sages arose. We have attended to human affairs,
cultivated the timing of Heaven, and ensured our granaries are full. Our people respect and yield to one another. From the remnants of Jinhan down to the people of Mahan, Lelang, and the Japanese, there is none who does not fear and cherish us. Our king is humble and sent this lesser minister to pay respects; to say this exceeds the rites is truly strange. Yet Your Majesty is enraged and threatens me with soldiers. What is your intention?" The king was furious and wanted to kill him, but his attendants advised against it, and he allowed him to return. Before this, many people from the Central Plains China had fled the chaos of the Qin dynasty and come east, mingling with the people of Jinhan. By this time, they had become numerous, which is why Mahan was jealous and issued this reprimand. As for Hogong, his clan and surname are not clear. He was originally Japanese; because he first crossed the sea with a gourd tied to his waist, he was called Hogong.
In the thirty-ninth year, the Mahan king died. Someone suggested to the King, "The Mahan king previously humiliated our envoy. Now that they are in mourning, we should conquer them. That country is not difficult to pacify." The King replied, "Taking advantage of another's misfortune is not virtuous," and he did not follow the advice. Instead, he sent an envoy to offer condolences.
