Chachaung, also called Jichung. Kim Daemun says that in the local language, this means shaman. The people of the world serve ghosts and spirits with shamanism and value sacrificial rites, so they fear and respect them. Consequently, they called the honored elder "Jichung." He was the eldest legitimate son of Hyeokgeose. He was tall, his nature was calm and profound, and he possessed much wisdom and strategy. Commentary says: When a ruler ascends the throne, he begins the regnal count in the following year. This method is detailed in the Spring and Autumn Annals. This is a classic of the former kings that should not be altered. The Yi Xun Instructions of Yi says, "When King Tang of Shang passed away, it was the first year of Taijia." The Zhengyi Correct Meaning commentary states that when King Tang passed away, that year was the first year of Taijia. However, Mencius says, "Tang died, Taiding had not yet been established, Waibing reigned for two years, Zhongren for four." This suggests the Book of Documents...
