In the thirteenth year, autumn, the eighth month, Lelang violated the northern border and captured Saseom Castle.
In the fourteenth year, King Mushul of Goguryeo raided Lelang and destroyed it. Five thousand of its people came to submit and were distributed to live among the six departments.
In the seventeenth year, autumn, the ninth month, the people of the Hwaryeo and Unae districts conspired and led cavalry to violate the northern border. The Goguryeo troops intercepted them at the western bend of the river and defeated them. The King was pleased and formed friendly relations with the Goguryeo state.
In the nineteenth year, autumn, the eighth month, the Goguryeo commander hunted and captured birds and beasts, offering them to the King.
In the thirty-first year, spring, the second month, a comet appeared in the Purple Forbidden Enclosure.
In the thirty-third year, summer, the fourth month, a dragon appeared at Geumseong, and there was a sudden violent rainstorm coming from the northwest. In the fifth month, a strong wind uprooted trees.
In the thirty-fourth year, autumn, the ninth month, the King was ill and said to his ministers, "Although Talhae is a relative of the state, he occupies the position of a supporting minister and has repeatedly displayed merit and fame. My two sons do not possess his talent. After I die, let him ascend to the great throne so that my final instructions may not be forgotten." In the winter, the tenth month, the King passed away and was buried in the Saryeong garden.
Talhae Isageum ascended the throne he was sixty-two years old, of the Seok surname.
Originally, Talhae was born in the state of Dapan-guk. That state was one thousand li northeast of Japan. At first, its king married the daughter of the King of the Women's State as his wife. She was pregnant for seven years and then gave birth to a large egg. The King said, "For a human to give birth to an egg is inauspicious. It should be abandoned." His wife could not bear to do so; she wrapped the egg in silk along with treasures, placed it in a chest, and floated it on the sea, letting it go where it might. It first arrived at the coast of Geumgwan-guk. The people of Geumgwan were suspicious and did not take it...
