This eye-self-nature is exactly non-self-nature. The sound-realm, and even the ear-contact and the various feelings arising from it—their self-nature is sunyata; it is not the eye-realm self-nature; it is not the Dana-paramita. The eye-realm cannot be obtained; "that" also cannot be obtained. It can be obtained; the "I" also cannot be obtained. If one realizes that the eye-realm and even the eye-contact and the various feelings arising from it cannot be obtained, then "that," "self," or "no-self" cannot be obtained.
Because here there is not even a "self," and there is no "no-self." If one can practice the Dana-paramita like this, one says: "You virtuous men, you should practice the Dana-paramita. You should not contemplate the eye-realm and the eye-contact and the feelings arising from them, whether pure or impure." Why? Next, Kausika Indra, for virtuous men and women who wish to arouse the supreme bodhicitta awakening mind, I declare the Dana-paramita thus: "You virtuous men, in the Dana-paramita, you should not contemplate the ear-realm, the ear-contact, or the feelings arising from them, whether pure or impure." Why? Because the ear-realm, ear-contact, and the feelings arising from them, as well as the ear-consciousness realm and the ear-contact arising from them—the ear-realm self-nature is sunyata; it is not the ear-realm self-nature; it is not the Dana-paramita. The ear-realm self-nature is not the sound-realm, and even the ear-contact...
