...are like empty space, and therefore cannot be exhausted. Subhuti, all Bodhisattva Mahasattvas in the Prajnaparamita—the Buddha told Subhuti—all Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should contemplate all form, feeling, perception, formation, and consciousness as all like empty space. Therefore, Subhuti, the Prajnaparamita is like this. Subhuti, all Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should act in this way within the Prajnaparamita. Subhuti, all Bodhisattva Mahasattvas should contemplate the Twelve Nidanas Twelve Links of Dependent Origination in this way. Contemplating the Twelve Nidanas in this way, they remain far removed from the two extremes the extremes of eternalism and nihilism. In this way, they contemplate the Twelve Nidanas as the middle path. This is the place where those Bodhisattvas attain the unique and wonderful wisdom that realizes all things. Subhuti, you should know that if Bodhisattvas practice the deep Prajnaparamita and observe the Twelve Nidanas as they truly are, they will attain the path. Subhuti, you should know that if there are any Bodhisattva groups that turn back from the path, it is because they have relied on such [incorrect views]. If they rely [correctly], they will have upaya-kausalya skillful means. If they do not know things as they truly are, the Bodhisattva groups who practice the deep Prajnaparamita will be as they are. Why? Because of the appearance of empty ignorance. Why? Subhuti, you should know that if Bodhisattva groups contemplate the Twelve Nidanas [incorrectly], Subhuti, you should know that those Bodhisattva groups who turn back from the path do so because they are far removed [from the truth]. If they have the Prajnaparamita and upaya-kausalya, Subhuti, you should know that those Bodhisattva groups who do not turn back from the path all rely on the Prajnaparamita and upaya-kausalya. Because these Bodhisattvas rely on this Prajnaparamita and upaya-kausalya, they practice the deep Prajnaparamita like empty space, without grasping or taking on forms, observing the Twelve Nidanas as they truly are. In this way, they contemplate the Twelve Nidanas; they do not see any dharma that arises; they do not see any dharma that has a specific nature or characteristic; they do not see any dharma that has an actor or a recipient of action. These Bodhisattvas practice the deep Prajnaparamita by observing the Twelve Nidanas as they truly are, like empty space, without taking on forms. Subhuti, you should know that when Bodhisattvas observe the Twelve Nidanas in the Prajnaparamita as they truly are, at that time, these Bodhisattvas do not see form, feeling, perception, formation, or consciousness; they do not see this Buddha-world; they do not see that Buddha-world; they do not see this dharma; they do not see that dharma. If Bodhisattvas can act like this... A small vertical line mark at the bottom center of the text block, likely a punctuation or section marker.
