A Bodhisattva should think: "Those Thus-Come-Ones, the Perfectly Enlightened Ones, have also generated all-wisdom within the Prajnaparamita." Having thought this, they should further contemplate: "Just as the Thus-Come-Ones, the Perfectly Enlightened Ones, have verified the Dharma, I also will verify such [enlightenment]." Subhuti, if Bodhisattvas practice the Prajnaparamita and reflect in this way, the merit gathered in the time it takes to snap one's fingers is greater than the merits obtained from [ordinary] giving, let alone [doing this] for a day or half a day. These Bodhisattvas will soon abide in the stage of non-retrogression, and will always be protected by the Buddhas. If Bodhisattva groups are protected by the Buddhas, they will definitely realize supreme, perfect enlightenment. If they are not, [they might fall into] the stages of Sravaka voice-hearer/disciple or Pratyekabuddha solitary realizer, and they will definitely not be born into the evil paths; they will always be born as devas or humans, but not through the power of the Buddhas. If Bodhisattvas practice the Prajnaparamita and continuously reflect on the merits and victories of the Buddhas—let alone the Buddha's merits—in the time it takes to snap one's fingers, they will already obtain boundless merit and victory, let alone [if they do it] for one day or longer. With courageous diligence, they practice and generate the Prajnaparamita of enlightenment, constantly reflecting on the Buddhas' merits, like the fragrant elephant a metaphor for a noble or powerful being. All these Bodhisattvas are in the presence of the Immovable Buddha Akshobhya, always practicing pure conduct, never leaving the Prajnaparamita. At that time, [the Buddha] spoke again, saying that having finished this sutra, immeasurable Bodhisattva Mahasattvas with compassionate hearts, and the Sravakas, along with the devas, dragons, gandharvas celestial musicians, and all other beings, upon hearing what the Buddha said, were all greatly joyful, believed it, and practiced accordingly.
