'The Kula family/totality of divine energy, the word [and] the unnamed...'
[This refers to] the form of the "unnamed" original: "anākhyarūpam"—this is the meaning. And what is it like, this other thing? [Abhinavagupta] says "that duality" original: "tadubhayam". That which will be explained, consisting of creation and dissolution, the "duality" and its "union" original: "yāmala"—the state of playful union—consequently:
'Inside the pair of wheels, the supreme state of playful union shines forth.'
Thus [it is said]. Likewise:
'The succession known as "descent" original: "avatāra" arises from the playful union within the [process of] manifestation and dissolution.'
By this principle, the various creations whose essence is stability and whose nature is manifested existence are identical to it. Indeed, the supreme, unnamed, divine Consciousness original: "saṃvit" manifests creation and the rest within its own self, and dissolves them [back into itself]—this is the intention. As it has been said:
'She who is eternally risen, the single radiance that brings about the end of time,
Shines in the hollow of the sky, blossoming within the lotus of the heart.
She is the form of creation, persistence, and dissolution, devoted to bearing them.'
