The Light of the Tantras

The Mother? [She is] "resting upon the stainless phase" original: "vimalakalāśrayā". "Stainless" is the phase of letters; the "support" is the foundation, meaning she is named the "Stainless Phase." Likewise, [she is described as] having the "greatness of a new creation" original: "abhinavasṛṣṭimahā". The "creation"—the birth—of the glorious Abhinavagupta himself. As it is said:

'The ancestors rejoice, the grandfathers rejoice,
A Maheśvara gloss: great lord/devotee of Shiva is born today; he will liberate us.'

Because of the supreme wonder of having fulfilled one's purpose through the birth of a virtuous son, she is "greatness/festivity" original: "mahaḥ". And the Father, what is he like? [He is] "of the guarded radiance of the five-faced one" original: "pañcamukhaguptaruciḥ". The "five-faced one" is the lion; through the name "Simhagupta," his "radiance"—his fame—is everywhere.

'His son, famous among the people as Cukhulaka a nickname for Abhinavagupta,
Whose intellect was as bright as the moon, was Narasimhagupta.'
