"Sadashiva" and so on: He is "Shiva" because he is always auspicious or because he is the source of auspiciousness. He is "ever-blissful" because he is the source of permanent bliss or because he causes the virtuous to be blissful. He is an "ocean of the nectar of compassion," meaning a sea of the ambrosia of mercy. He is "white as camphor and the kunda flower" and "the embodiment of pure goodness," meaning he is characterized by the quality of pristine clarity. He is "all-pervading." (6)
"Wearing the directions as his garment" means he has no clothes. He is the "protector of the poor," the lord of destitute people. He is the "king of Yogis," the greatest among those engaged in the contemplation of the Supreme Self. He is the "beloved of Yogis" or he for whom the Yogis are dear. He is "adorned with a circle of matted hair," which is moistened by the spray of the Ganges water scattered here and there. (7)
"Decorated with ash" means adorned with holy ash. He is "peaceful," one with a controlled inner self. He wears a "garland of snakes." He is the "bearer of the skull," adorned with a human skull. He is the "three-eyed" one because he has three eyes through which he sees. He is the "lord of the three worlds," the presiding deity of the three realms. He is the "bearer of the excellent trident," as he has the nature of holding the supreme trident. (8)
"Easily pleased" means his satisfaction comes quickly. He is the "embodiment of knowledge," meaning he is the essence of understanding all things according to their truth. He is the "giver of the fruit of liberation," which is the form of Nirvana final liberation/extinction of worldly suffering.
