If you spot an error, have a suggestion, or just want to say hello — we’d love to hear from you.

You have delivered the people from sin, which brings sorrow, grief, and disease.
Who else but You exists for living beings in this terrible ocean of existence? (34)
You are the supporter, the savior, the liberator, and the lord who acts with affection like a father.
Then, when the Dvapara the third age of the world cycle arrived, lacking the meritorious deeds described in the Smritis traditional law codes, (35)
When half of righteousness was lost and humanity was afflicted by mental and physical illness,
By the teaching of the Samhitas collections of sacred lore and other texts, You alone have saved mankind. (36)
When the Kali the final, corrupt age age of sinners has arrived, which destroys all righteousness,
Characterized by evil conduct, wicked paths, and the promotion of vile acts. (37)
The Vedas most ancient sacred scriptures have no power here; how can the Smritis traditional laws be remembered?
Which are filled with various histories and demonstrate various paths. (38)
By manifesting these, You have delivered people who were weak in austerity and private study from sin. "Delivered" means saved; this is the connection. (30-33)
"To You," and so on. Since You are such, it should be understood as "Who else but You?"
"In this terrible ocean of existence" means in the fearsome sea of worldly life. The "Lord" is the master of the universe. (34)
"Then," and so on. "Lacking the meritorious deeds described in the Smritis" means those who have abandoned the virtuous acts prescribed by the traditional laws. "Half of righteousness was lost" means that righteousness has been cut in half. Both "lacking meritorious deeds" and "half of righteousness lost" should be understood as adjectives for the Dvapara age or for humanity. Mental illness is a form of suffering. (35-36)
"When the Kali age has arrived," and so on. "Evil conduct" refers to that age where wicked behavior exists. (37)
