XII. At the end of each section or suborder, I have added an alphabetical repertory of species according to their matrices hosts or substrates, which no one is unaware of how useful it is in researching the names of fungi. I owe both that repertory and the aforementioned index of books to the skill and diligence of JACOBUS BIZZOZERO, curator of the botanical garden of Padua, to whom I publicly offer very many thanks.
It remains now for me to offer the greatest possible thanks to the most esteemed botanists and many friends, both from Europe and America, who have vigorously favored my work in various ways. Among whom, may it be permitted for me to cite only those who stimulated the life of the Sylloge either by sending a duplicate copy of their own high-value works, or by lending or transcribing very rare mycological books, or finally by kindly disseminating notice of the work through journals; they are: M. J. BERKELEY ¹), T. CARUEL, V. CESATI, M. C. COOKE, J. B. ELLIS, J. H. FABRE, P. A. KARSTEN, E. LAMBOTTE, G. DE NIESSL, G. PASSERINI, C. PECK, N. PEDICINO, O. PENZIG ²), DR. REHM, C. ROUMEGUÉRE, J. SCHRÖTER, C. SPEGAZZINI, F. DE THÜMEN, G. WINTER.
I am happy to report that the most illustrious and venerable BERKELEY kindly sent me (besides his other works) very many slips containing the diagnoses of Hymenomycetes membrane fungi already edited by him, which he had prepared for compiling a Sylloge, which was in everyone's wishes. However, his occupations and advanced age impeded the project. Would that it be granted to the most famous man to see his fruits all collected systematically in this Sylloge.
The distinguished and friendly Prof. PENZIG prepared outlines of some fungi not yet fully described, which I used to complete their diagnoses.
