Good advice
...nor will angels say a word for men as they are wont, because the nature of judgment does not accept mercy. original: "angeli pio hominibus facient verbum sicut solent : qi natura iudicit non accipit misericordiam ꝗ."
If the Blessed Virgin and all the saints were to ask for one sinner deceased in mortal sin, they would not be heard. original: "Si beata virgo ⁊ omnes sancti rogaret pro vno peccatore defuncto in peccato mortali non eraudirentur."
Therefore, dearest brothers, place this examination of strict judgment before the eyes of the mind at all times, doing penitence. original: "Ergo fratres carissimi hoc districti iudiciꝗ examen omni tperboza ante mentis oculos ponite:penitentia agentes."
All who wish to be saved, let them accumulate good works through which God may render himself propitious to them. original: "Omes volentes saluari bona opera cumulent:per que deus reddat eis ppicius."
For Bernard says: "If God is not with you by grace, he is present to you by vengeance." original: "qa dicit Bernardus:Si deus non est tecum per gratia:adeft tibi per vindicta."
But woe to you if he is present to you in such a way. original: "Sed ve tibi si ita tibi adeft."
For God is angry with him whom he does not scourge as a sinner. original: "Illi naꝗ irascitur deus quem peccatorem non flagellat."
For he whom he does not amend by scourging in the present, he condemns eternally in the future. original: "Nam quem flagellando in pnti non emendat:in futuro eterna liter condemnat."
For the justice of God can judge nothing other than what works deserve. original: "Iusticia eni dei aliud iudicare no potest:nisi qꝗ merentur opera."
For he who loves the world more than God, the century more than the cloister, gluttony more than abstinence, luxury more than chastity, is not of the number of those to be saved, but of those to be condemned. original: "Qui enim diligit mundum plus ꝗ deum: seculum ꝗ claustꝗ:gulam ꝗ abstinetia:luxuriam ꝗ castitateꝗ no est de numero saluandorum sed condemnandoꝗ."
O if now all, and especially the lovers of the world, would attend, and in their mind at all times would revolve, and would remember the same bitterness of the eternity of infernal punishments, there is no doubt but that many and infinite would cease from sins, leaving behind the fallacious and deceitful world, not thus going after their own concupiscences. original: "O fi nunc cuncti ⁊ specialiter mudi amatores attenderet:⁊ in animo omi tempore reuolueret:⁊ memorarent eandem acerbitateꝗ eternitatem penay infernalium: nulli dubiu quin multi et infiniti a peccatis cessarent.mundu fallacem ⁊ dolosum relinquetes:no sic irent post cocupiscentias suas."
Who, alas, hardly notice the precepts of God; indeed, holding them in contempt, they repute them for nothing, when nevertheless without the observation of the commandments of God, no one can be saved. original: "Qui heu dei pcepra minime aduertunt:imo paruipendetes pro nihilo reputat cum tamen fine obseruatioe mandatorum dei nullus saluari possit."
As the Savior testifies in Matthew 19, saying: "If you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments of God." original: "Sicut testat saluator Math. xix. dicens Si vis ad vita ingredi serua mandata dei."
Likewise in Exodus, chapter 20: "I am a strong and jealous God, rendering the iniquity of the fathers upon the sons unto the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, namely by not keeping my commandments and by sinning; and doing mercies unto thousands to those who love me, by keeping my commandments." original: "Item in Erodo. xx. capt. Ego sum deus fortis et emulatoꝗ reddens iniquitateꝗ patru in filios in tertia ⁊ quarta generationem eoy qui oderunt me. scilicet mandata mea nom custodiendo ⁊ peccato:⁊ faciens misericordias in milia his qui diligut mandata mea custodiedo."
Hence the Psalm curses such, saying: "Cursed are those who decline from your commandments." original: "Dinc pfal. imprecat talibus maledictione dices: Maledicti qui declinat a mandatis tuis."
Let the lovers of the world listen to the sentence of Athanasius in his creed, that it behooves us all to render an account of all our works on the day of judgment. original: "Auscultet mudi amatores fentetia Athanasii in simbolo suo ꝗ oportet nos oes de oibus opibus nostris in die iudicii reddere ratione."
And those who have done good will go into eternal life, but those who have done evil, into eternal fire. original: "Et qui tuc bona egerut ibunt in vita eterna:qui vero mala in igne eternu."
