To the most Reverend Father in Christ and Lord, the Lord Stefano de Nardinis: the most worthy Cardinal of the venerable church of Saint Mary in Transtiberim modern: Santa Maria in Trastevere, commonly called of Milan. Julianus de Blanchis, Roman citizen, canon of the aforementioned basilica, and his most reverend paternity’s faithful servant, offers perpetual greeting.

Most reverend Father and my unique and most outstanding prelate: the goodness of the highest majesty, always to be amended and praised, has enlightened and fostered with prophetic mouth its inferior rational creatures. As the prophet says: “They shall go from virtue to virtue, and the God of gods shall be seen in Sion.” For the virtue of God must be held and cultivated by all, because those who are filled with its fragrance are not improperly called truly rich and happy. Taught by this doctrine of divinity, I strive with all my might to trample and extirpate the pernicious and malign nature of vice, everywhere detestable and abhorrent, especially sloth and indolence. In past times, there have been men gifted with virtue who, in order to report victory over their enemies, applied themselves to various studies of the sciences. Some gave themselves entirely to the study of natural philosophy, others to moral, and others to discourse-based philosophy. The greatness of God’s power so wisely decreed all these things, that later men might be enticed by their doctrines and might perfectly perceive the truth of natural things. Therefore, most reverend Father, I have finally given and surrendered myself with all care and study to those teachers who possessed the true knowledge of the stars and the movement of the stars, who wrote about the property, conjunction, and motion of them, and about the great vigils and many peregrinations across almost the entire globe of the earth. And because by the grace of God I am what I am, as the apostolic trumpet sounds, and from that grace itself, to me, a worm and a man of the Lord, has proceeded the path of the art of astrology, which I demonstrate and show, by the true doctrine of astrology, sometimes the past and more frequently the future. Therefore, for the praise and glory of the Creator of heaven and earth, and for the notice and information of our most holy Lord Pope Sixtus Pope Sixtus IV, the true and legitimate ruler of the entire militant church, and for your joy and happiness in the future part of the year 1481, just as I was accustomed to do in past years, I shall most clearly show the knowledge of the true doctrine of astrology. And so that we may appear to proceed according to the foundations of the same art, for the sake of those who are skilled in the art of astronomy, I shall first set forth some calculations. The first of which is this: When the years 1460 have been completed from the time of the great conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter preceding the Deluge, which preceded it by 279 years, we are now in the great orb 13, in calculating that every orb is 360 degrees. The Moon governs in this orb, and Leo is the sign of the profession of the orb, and the Sun is the divider in this year. The direction from the orb comes according to the Libra. The lord of the terms of division is Saturn. The progression from the great conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter preceding the birth of Christ comes this year to Aquarius, in which Saturn is lord, and it is clear from Albumasar in his Treatise on Great Conjunctions, first tractate, first and fifth division. The progression from the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter, when they changed triplicity in the year of our Lord 1465, at the beginning of this year comes to the 9th degree of Cancer. The progression, however, from the ascendant of the aforementioned conjunction comes at the time of its revolution to the 4th degree of Cancer. The progression from the ascendant of the year in which the conjunction itself occurred comes to the 20th degree of Leo. The progression from the conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter made in the year of our Lord 1515, in
