Concerning scholars

Masters of the liberal arts, mathematicians, astrologers, arithmeticians, scribes, poets, merchants, and those who labor with wit will give themselves to letters in the spring. And because of the study of philosophy and sciences, they will prepare themselves for travel. They will be occupied with the worship of the gods. They will suffer cold and melancholic infirmities. Merchants should beware of the dangers of the roads from martial men. In the summer, they will have a declining status. They will fear spiritual infirmities of the mind, such as horrible thoughts in the exhaustion of the mind, and sicknesses from melancholic humor. In autumn and winter, they will feel a happy status. They will seek friends and fortune. They will have utilities and comforts from friends. They will also make long pilgrimages.

Status of women

Pregnant women, virgins, eunuchs, mimes, singers, and all of that kind will fare with mediocrity in the spring. They will be devout women for the most part, so that many will frequently visit the thresholds of the saints, even through long travel. In summer and autumn, they will think about beautiful necklaces and clothes. They will associate themselves with soldiers and men-at-arms, for they will be very much loved by them at that time. In winter, however, they will feel various sicknesses. Yet this year signifies many deceits and sadnesses for women.

Concerning the status of the common people

Road runners, companions, fishermen, millers, and mechanics will fare well in the first quarter of the year. They will be honored by kings. They will feel justice. They will be handed over to great happiness in security, liberties, and health in the second quarter. They will feel various and acute infirmities. In autumn, death threatens them with the destruction of goods, inheritances, and possessions. And in winter, they will collect money from men-at-arms and substances.

Chapter 10. Concerning wars and peace

Even Leupoldus, in tractate 5, clearly commands to avert the eyes from the figure in which a square Mars is found. For wars and intersections, as Hali desires, signify individual and various things. Also, regarding the specular causes from which future wars should be known, we do not find the present year to rest from litigations.
