The seal of the Public Library of the City of Boston. The emblem is circular and features a panoramic view of the Boston skyline as seen from the harbor. An ornate border surrounds the seal with the text "Public Library of the City of Boston" arched over the top. Within the medallion, several Latin mottoes are inscribed: "As God was to our fathers, so may He be to us" original: "SICUT PATRIBUS SIT DEUS NOBIS" at the top, "Boston founded A.D. 1630" original: "BOSTONIA CONDITA AD 1630" in the center, and "Incorporated as a city A.D. 1822" original: "CIVITATIS REGIMINE DONATA A.D. 1822" at the bottom.
